Xiamen
.Xiamen was amazing to fly into at night it looked like Los Vegas with all of the neon. We flew from Bangkok to Xiamen and both have what look to be new airports the one in Xiamen was heads and shoulders much better looking.
We spent 3 great days walking around Xiamen and saw one foreigner in the entire 3 days. You could sense that the locals were not used to having westerns walking around and they really went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. Unlike a lot of cites that we have traveled to we did not feel that they were trying to take advantage of us as tourist that did not speak the language or have the slightest clue what we were doing.
Some of the highlights were the restaurants we tired to eat as local as we dared. Many of these resturants if they were in the west would not be alloed to operate yet My uncle who has troubles at time with food in forgiven countries was problem free the whole time that we were in Xiamen, which as a coastal city has allot of seafood restaurants and they are all reasonably priced. I would tell you which ones to go to but that would take allot of the adventue away from you from go and find them yourselves and you will be rewarded with many great experiences like we enjoyed.
We stayed at the P & T Zongheng Hotel listed on CTrip.com as He Yun Hotel in Xiamen. We felt that the rooms were small but the service was very large I cannot remember getting better service anywhere in my travels, anything that we asked for they helped us with and I am sure this is one of the reasons that we had such a great time
When you look on the internet for Xiamen hotels in China all you will find normally are the very expensive hotels. I spoke with a guy and he said the cheapest that he could find was $100 USD a night. I knew that this would not be true and I was correct. If you can ask for the 168 hotels which use to be equal to $20 USD you will find hotel rooms that are small but comfortable. So far as we have traveled around China this was true for the rest of the country expect to pay a little bit more in the bigger cities like Bejing and Shanghai

P & T Zongheng Hotel listed on CTrip as He Yun Hotel in Xiamen was a great hotel with 106 rooms with 79 of the rooms doubles. the staff was very helpful especially Andy whose English skills and local knowledge made this one of our favorite stops in China.
The hotel is incorporated into Zhongshang Park located close to the intersections of Xiahe rd and Gongyuan Dong rd A little bit hard to find but all the taxis drivers know it so no problem. a very clean and quiet neighborhood gives you a feel for a old Xiamen neighborhood.
