Cambodia Thailand Border Crossing

Bangkok Poipet Siem Reap

There are a couple of ways into Cambodia from Thailand some people come from Koh Shan rd and head straight for the temples of Angkor Wat which will take them through the Poipet crossing an easy trip they will have all connection done for you to Phnom Penh or Siem Reap sit back and enjoy the ride till you hit the Thai border then hold on the roads are getting better by the day but there are still some rough spots especially on the road to Seim Reap.

Bangkok -Trat -Sihanoukville - Phnom Penh

Bangkok to Trat take a 1st class Thailand Bus from one of the main Bangkok Bus Stations Ekamai or Northwest cost under 200 baht they will drop you near the 7-11 in Trat from here there are connections to Koh Chang or Cambodia. For Cambodia you will need to take a mini bus across the street from the 7-11 to the border which will cost you 100 baht The important thing here to remember is that if you are getting the boat to Sihanoukville which I highly recommend the boat leaves at 8:30 Am the border opens sometimes at 7 sometimes 7:20 so you have to clear customs on both sides and get to the boat which is 7 KM away. They love to tell you that they will hold the boat if they are slow processing I wouldn't count on it. If you miss the boat you need to take the mini buses which they will sincerely tell you only takes 6 hours try more like 8 hours that is if you don't get stuck pushing your van out of mud holes deep enough to qualify as water buffalo rest stops.

Cambodia Taxi

You can catch a taxi from the Thailand Cambodia Border at Hat Lek for $60 all the way to Phnom Penh be sure to insist that you have the whole car otherwise they will have load the vicheile at your expense make sure also that the car is left hand drive and that the car that they show you is going to take you all the way and that they are not going to show you a nice clean air con car then fob you off to a piece of Shiite with no air and no shocks and cousin Mildred and all her teething kids.

Foreign Exchange Trades Dollars Euros Baht

You can use a visa debit card from your bank you only have to pay 1% to the Cambodia Banks if you take out in $500 lots as long as you don't have your password where someone can find it this is a very safe and cheap way to get money in Cambodia, I wish some one would have told me I could have saved a lot of money this way.

US dollars are excepted everywhere in Cambodia., Thailand Baht is good as well in some area's close to Thailand. Make sure that your dollars and traveler's checks are wholeand that they are not damaged or defaced ! They have to have 100% of the bill otherwise they will not take it, EVEN AT THE BANK! I kid you not!!! I suggest that you bring lots of small bills especially 5's They like the new bills over the old ones especially the 100's We have seen the counterfeits and you would not be able to tell the difference so do yourself a favor and only except the new bills if you are getting large US currancy back. The new bills have big heads the old have small heads.
