The best area for Singapore backpackers is the Little India area you will find all of the best Singapore Backpacker Hotels in this area. I suspect in time though there will be more options out in the Orchard Rd area which is a cool place as well. there are a couple of places in china town but fore the most part the Singapore China town was a disappointment. The thing about Singapore to keep in mind is that they have a excellent and cheap train system that will literally take you any where inside of Singapore for very little money, so it doesn't really matter where you stay if you are paying and getting what you want. A note stay away from the Fragrance hotels they charge too much and don't provide value in my opinion.
Madras's Hotel main point that I liked about this hotel is that it has WiFi in the roms which are a little small but that is the case for most rooms in Singapore Backpackers Hotels. Located close to 2 subways stations on different lines offers options on your trips about town. the owner also runs backpacker hotels in Bangkok so he knows the scene and what is important to travelers.
Dickerson Court Very much the same as the Madras's smaller rooms clean and comfortable close to the backpacker scene in Little India.
When you are there in the Little India Area be sure to visit Selmors. I went there around 11 at night and I had the opportunity to sit and shot the shit with the owner for around 20 minutes he really went out of his way to show extra hospitality and these things should be rewarded so go and have some of his fantastic India fare. A good day is Sundays as all the India guys are sitting around with all of their friends from back home a very interesting scene to see. If you are looking for a Singapore hostel or some good music POW Prince Of Whales is a good choice to hang out as well as the In Crowd both places are friendly and comfortable to chill.
