PADI Open Water Scuba Diving Training

Padi open water scuba diver training

There are two basic courses, PADI Open Water and PADI Scuba Diver. The most popular way is to do the 4 day PADI Open Water Scuba Diving course which when you complete the course you will receive the PADI Open Water Card which is recognized the world over.

For the Open Water Course if possible you want to look for a dive center that will offer small groups so that you get the max attention possible.  For the younger folks there is the PADI Jr open Water scuba diving Certificate which has certain restriction for the younger divers safety once they reach a certain age they can simply apply for the regular PADI Open Water card

The Dive Course

The PADI Open Water Scuba Diving course is composed of 3 different components

The study component the Confined water and the open water

PADI Study

What to expect you will watch 5 presentations and read a book and you will complete 5 knowledge reviews and take some quizzes and a final examine sounds hard, not really, we never have had anyone not pass the PADI Open Water Course final exam. The PADI philosophy is to get them in the water fast so to start you might just review a flip chart and go into a confined open water 1 and then once you have completed the skills to the PADI instructors satisfaction you might proceed to the Open Water 1 dive which is a tour underwater to make you more comfortable there are no skills in the open water 1 dive.

PADI Confined Water Training

There are 5 segments here as well you will do skills and gradually build up to more complex skills (relax this ain' t brain surgery) the idea is to get you so that you can perform the tasks that you will need in order to be a confident and comfortable diver in a controlled environment that offers pool like conditions you might actually do this in the ocean in a quiet location.  Some of the skills that you learn you might not do in the open water but someday you might need them so they cover them here.

PADI Open Water Training.

The open water training is a rehash of all of the stuff that you have all ready done several times in the pool sessions.  You will not be asked to do anything that you have not done before with the possible exception of some new ways to get in the water like possibly a giant stride entry from a boat ( relax its as easy as walking the plank in a pirate movie without the sharks!)
