Cambodia Banking Foriegn Exchange

Banking in Cambodia is still fairly primitive the main example would be that there werel no ATM's in Cambodia untill 2006 for ATM's go to this page ATM locations in Cambodia You will still need to go into the Banks if you want to do foriegn exchange trades. however at the markets you will get a much better foriegn exchange rate than you would get in the banks.

You can also go to the small local markets to do foriegn exchange trades of Dollars Euros Baht and all of the South East Asian Currencies and surprisingly you can go to grocery stores and there is even a motorcycle shop that will do currency trades as well.

You can use a visa debit card from your bank you only have to pay 1% if you take out in $500 lots as long as you don't have your password where someone can find it, this is a very safe and cheap way to get money in Cambodia, I wish some one would have told me this as I could have saved a lot of money this way.

Good money advise when traveling in Cambodia

US dollars are excepted everywhere in Cambodia., Thailand Baht is good as well in some area's close to Thailand. Make sure that your dollars and traveler's checks are whole and that they are not damaged or defaced ! They have to have 100% of the bill otherwise they will not take it, EVEN AT THE BANK! I kid you not!!! I suggest that you bring lots of small bills especially 5's They like the new bills over the old ones especially the 100's We have seen the counterfeits of the small head 100's and 50's and you would not be able to tell the difference now we are also seeing big head tens that look to be counterfiet as well so do yourself a favor and only except the new big head bills if you are getting large US currancy back. for the 20's and tens try to get only the new color ones. The new bills have big heads the old have small heads. You have been warned!!!

Credit cards are also a good thing to have if you need travel insurance in Asia you will find that doctors and hosipatals will not take your travel insurance so you will need cash and credit cards and debit cards are the safest to carry
